Heat pumps can reduce the running cost of a Hot Tub by up to 70%, to under £10 a week for an 7 or 8 foot Tub. But to obtain this efficiency you need to use the correct size of heat pump. In the Irish climate, with low average temperatures, the minimum size required is 7kw. Anything less will not give any noticeable reduction in the electricity costs. Some misleading claims are being made of smaller units, with the test results taken in much warmer climates than we have in Ireland. These heat pumps will not produce the savings expected. Aquark heat pumps are available in three sizes, 7, 9 & 11kw. For a standard 7/8ft Hot Tub the 7kw is the most suitable. A Swim Spa would require a 9 or 11kw depending on size.
